Dragon Lee has inked a fresh main roster agreement with WWE.
As disclosed in the recent issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, the vibrant new addition to SmackDown has solidified his commitment to WWE by signing a new contract, following his ascent from NXT.
The signing was completed last week, according to Meltzer’s report in the newsletter, and it seems Lee’s decision to bypass a signing opportunity with AEW—when both promotions were vying for the masked marvel—has proven advantageous for the dynamic luchador.
Lee had sought advice from those familiar with the U.S. wrestling landscape on whether joining Tony Khan’s outfit would be a prudent move. The consensus among them was that he might not stand out in AEW’s roster.
Not long ago, advice to an up-and-coming Mexican wrestler might have skewed against venturing into sports entertainment, especially given that, with some exceptions like Alberto Del Rio, Mexican wrestlers have often found it challenging to navigate the WWE system.
However, Lee’s strategy to hone his craft in NXT before ascending to WWE’s premier platform has apparently been a win-win. He’s been touted as an exciting future superstar and has secured a promising new contract. Meanwhile, WWE seems to have struck gold in discovering a masked performer who could potentially follow in the legendary footsteps of Rey Mysterio.
