This week, UFC and EA Sports unveiled the highly anticipated EA UFC 5 video game, slated for release on Friday, October 27, available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. The forthcoming iteration promises significant improvements to enhance the gaming experience.
The video game will showcase a range of crossover appearances, including legendary figures such as Fedor Emelianenko, Muhammad Ali, and Celebrity WWE Hall of Famer Mike Tyson. In light of the imminent closure of Endeavor’s WWE-UFC merger next week, speculation arose regarding the potential inclusion of WWE superstars in the UFC 5 roster.
According to insights from Fightful Select, the EA UFC 5 development team had indeed approached the subject of featuring WWE talents in the game. However, they were informed that substantial discussions on this matter would only commence once the merger officially takes place, indicating that plans are yet uncertain at this juncture.
As of now, the rights to create WWE video games are held by 2K. Noteworthy is that several individuals on the WWE roster have had stints in the UFC, including Brock Lesnar, Matt Riddle, Ronda Rousey, and Shayna Baszler. Furthermore, Bobby Lashley previously competed in Strikeforce, a promotion later acquired by the UFC.
Lesnar and Rousey have not only had remarkable careers in the UFC but have also featured in various UFC video game titles. Lesnar was spotlighted as the cover athlete for UFC Undisputed 2010 and made appearances in numerous other UFC games, including EA UFC 1 in 2014 and EA UFC 4 in 2020, courtesy of DLCs. Likewise, Rousey graced the cover of EA UFC 2 in 2016 and was featured in EA UFC 1, EA UFC 3 in 2018, and even in the EA UFC mobile game. Their participation in these titles was facilitated through licensing agreements during their respective tenures with UFC.
As fans eagerly await more details, it remains to be seen whether the merging worlds of WWE and UFC will herald the inclusion of WWE superstars in the upcoming EA UFC 5 game. The prospective crossover is sure to generate buzz and excitement in both the UFC and WWE communities.
