In a recent appearance on WWE’s YouTube show “The Bump,” John Cena, who is scheduled to join forces with LA Knight in a tag team match against Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa at WWE Fastlane 2023 this weekend, discussed potential unresolved tensions with the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and The Bloodline faction.
Cena reflected, “The last encounter was a fair fight where I ended up second, not the worst outcome.” He continued, “In the WWE, there’s always unfinished business. As long as you’re part of it, there’s always another match, another opportunity, another day. So, is there unfinished business? Certainly, because we’re perpetually here.”
The history between Cena and Reigns was touched upon, recalling their most recent in-ring encounter on December 30, 2022, during an episode of “WWE SmackDown.” That evening, Cena and Kevin Owens triumphed over “The Tribal Chief” and his then-“Honorary Uce” Sami Zayn in a tag team bout. Before this, Reigns successfully defended the WWE Universal Championship against Cena at WWE SummerSlam 2021.
During “The Bump,” Cena also acknowledged not faulting Sikoa for taking a moment to assess the landscape, and he is expected to be a consistent presence on “SmackDown” every week through the end of this month.
A recap of last Friday night’s event reveals that a week after Uso and Sikoa assaulted Cena and his original Fastlane tag team partner AJ Styles, Cena, the 16-time world champion, affirmed his commitment to his contract for the premium live event. He declared he would face Uso and Sikoa even in a two-on-one handicap match if a partner was not found. However, following another assault by Uso and Sikoa, Knight stepped in, aiding Cena and putting pen to paper to officially become his tag team partner at Fastlane.
