Before Matt Riddle’s surprising exit, along with many others in a sweeping talent cut affecting both the main WWE roster and NXT, he had teamed up with Drew McIntyre in a Raw tag team.
An unsettling incident involving Riddle occurred at JFK Airport on September 9, just a few days before his release. Riddle claimed that a Port Authority police officer had sexually assaulted him. An investigation is currently underway. Available video footage from the incident seems to depict Riddle, apparently inebriated, at the airport as he awaited his flight.
According to a report by WrestleVotes, WWE had envisioned a substantial role for the Riddle and McIntyre duo on the red brand, even to the extent of creating merchandise around them.
It was stated, “Before his exit, there were major plans in the works for a Matt Riddle/Drew McIntyre tag team partnership. Evidently, several merchandise concepts had been developed around the team’s prospective name… “McRiddle.” This isn’t a fabrication.”
It’s rumored that numerous wrestling and even MMA organizations are keen on signing Riddle. However, he’ll first need to see through his 90-day non-compete clause before joining any other entity.
