Dakota Kai stands out as one of the most skilled professional wrestlers in today’s lineup. Since joining WWE in 2016, she had a remarkable five-year tenure in NXT, making her primary roster debut in 2021 alongside IYO SKY & Bayley. The dynamic trio, branding themselves as Damage CTRL, quickly surged to prominence, cementing their place as one of the powerhouse women’s division trios.
Together, IYO and Dakota Kai clinched the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships twice. Their reign ended at the hands of Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan. In a twist of events, both Liv and Kai sustained injuries during that bout.
Dakota grappled with a torn ACL, while Morgan contended with a shoulder injury. This led to Kai’s hiatus from screen appearances until she rejoined at SummerSlam to celebrate IYO SKY’s championship triumph. Although she mingled with her Damage CTRL teammates, she refrained from wrestling. Later, she shared insights about her medical situation.
Kai’s Health Insights and Anticipated Return During a recent Twitch stream, Dakota Kai provided fans with an update regarding her injury and the timeline for her potential return to the squared circle.
Responding to inquiries about her wrestling comeback, Kai stated,
“I’m eyeing 2024 for a return. I find it amusing how many speculate, ‘She can’t possibly be injured; she’s walking fine.’ With my ACL condition, I haven’t even relearned the basics like jumping and running. I might try running again this week. The recovery process for an ACL injury, especially for athletes like me who rely heavily on their legs, is lengthy. If I had a desk job, I’d be back in full swing by now. However, wrestling demands more, so I won’t get the green light until January.”
Kai further assured her followers that although her return might seem distant, time is zipping by faster than they might think, hinting at her already outlined plans for 2024.
