During last nights AEW COLLISION event streamed live from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, OH, Nigel McGuinness and Kevin Kelly guided the viewers through an electrifying evening of wrestling.
Kicking off with a fierce AEW International Championship match, Jon Moxley defended his title against the relentless Action Andretti, who was escorted by Darius Martin. Despite Andretti’s energetic offense including a powerful tornillo, Moxley managed to secure victory through a submission hold, leaving the ring still champion.
The TBS Championship Open Challenge Match followed, pitching Kris Statlander against Robyn Renegade. A highly contested match with several near falls saw Statlander triumph, but victory was short-lived as the Renegade sisters launched a post-match attack, a conflict unexpectedly broken up by Jade Cargill’s sudden return and betrayal of Statlander.
Backstage, tensions flared between ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli and New Japan Open Weight Champion Eddie Kingston, leading to a match being set for Grand Slam with high stakes attached.
The action continued with a trios match featuring Bullet Club Gold’s team and the trio of Aerostar, Dios Del Inframundo, and Gravity. Bullet Club Gold managed to win the hard-fought match with a crucial pin secured by Juice Robinson.
Later on, Miro’s wife expressed a desire to return to her managerial role in wrestling, hinting at possible conflicts ahead. This was followed by a thrilling singles match where Rey Fenix managed to defeat Angelico in a bout filled with high-flying maneuvers and close pinfalls.
In a backstage interview with the AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR, they issued an open challenge to all teams willing to face them, promising to put their titles on the line. The stage was then set for a Grand Slam World Championship Eliminator Semi-Finals Match, seeing Roderick Strong facing off against Darby Allin. Despite an early ambush on Allin, he fought bravely but ultimately fell to Strong’s offensive onslaught, enabling Strong to advance to the finals.
A heartfelt interview followed with Bryan Danielson sharing his career plans and announcing a big match against Zack Sabre, Jr. at Wrestledream. However, the segment turned chaotic when “Absolute” Ricky Starks interrupted, leading to a brawl involving several individuals including Jon Moxley and Big Bill, setting up further conflicts down the line.
The evening culminated with another semi-finals match in the Grand Slam World Championship Eliminator, where Samoa Joe faced Penta El Zero Miedo. The intense, back-and-forth battle saw a range of powerful moves from both competitors, with Samoa Joe eventually forcing Penta to tap out, earning a spot in the finals against Roderick Strong scheduled for the upcoming Dynamite event.
